CodeLite IDE

Today I was looking at the Wikipedia page for the GCC compiler & I noticed there was a section listing the different IDE's you can use with it. Most of them I'd already used such as Dev-C++ & Code::Blocks but I noticed one which I hadn't seen before called CodeLite.

I've spent the past few hours using it & have found it to be quite useful, it's a lot like Code::blocks but a bit simpler to use.

Eric Python IDE

Interesting thread here on the Ubuntu forum about different IDEs for Python. I'd never heard of Eric before so I thought I'd install it in Windows. Building & Installation was successful but I recommend looking at the list of prerequisites before trying yourself, to minimize any possible errors.

NetBeans & JOGL

I've just downloaded the Java SE version of the NetBeans IDE from here & I also downloaded the JOGL plugin from here. The plugin comes with a lot of example programs such as those from the OpenGL redbook & several interesting examples showing you how to embed OpenGL Graphics in a form.

JCreator Java IDE

JCreator is a lightweight IDE for Java programming, I used to use it a lot before I got a new computer that was powerful enough to run Eclipse & NetBeans. I've recently started using it again & have found it quite useful; tedious tasks such as creating .jar files & javadoc can easily be automated & it's very fast & responsive. If you're going to download, I would suggest you get the JCreator LE version.

Visual Basic 10

Recently I discovered this post over at Channel 9 where you can see a video of Visual Basic 10 in action. I recommend you download the high-quality WMV video from here as it will show you the code being entered into the IDE. Apparently Microsoft have added a lot of new features to VBX from other languages such as Python & Lisp. I'll list some of the new features here...
  • Auto-Properties
  • Multiline Lambdas
  • Statement Lambdas
  • Collection Initializers
  • Array Literals
  • Implicit Line Continuation
  • Generic Variance

MinGW32 Download

I recently uninstalled the Code::Blocks IDE & decided to go back to writing my programs in notepad & compiling from the command line or using Makefiles.

I had difficulty getting the MinGW installer to download the relevant files, so I had a look on the MinGW  mailing list & found this post where someone else was having problems.

The OP was told he should download the TDM/MinGW installer from here. I did that & it downloaded & installed perfectly first time.
