Installing Java 7

In the past I'd tried installing the Java 7 JDK but the Installer would never successfully complete.

I eventually got it to install by downloading the combined JDK & NetBeans Installer.

I still don't know why this installation problem exists. A quick search on the Internet doesn't provide many answers as most people who are encountering these problems are using Linux rather than Windows.

Minicraft

So another Ludum Dare 48 Hour Coding Competition has been held & Notch the creator of Minecraft entered again. This time he made a game called Minicraft which can be best described as a much simpler 2D version of Minecraft. It's written in Java & the complete source can be downloaded from the previous link.

Making Easy Game SFX

Recently I've been watching Notch create a game in 48 hours on Justin.tv for the Ludum Dare competition.

At times during the Live broadcast he would use an additional application to create Sound-effects for his game. After a little searching I discovered that the app he was using was itself created for the competition back in 2007.

It's called sfxr & was developed by Tomas Pettersson. It's remarkable lightweight & really simple to use. Just one-click can generate a new random sound which can then be saved in the .WAV format.

Officially it isn't released until tomorrow but it can be downloaded unofficially from this page on the Mozilla FTP site.

Torchlight XBLA

Torchlight is an RPG game developed by the makers of Diablo. It's been available on PC & Mac for some time but tomorrow it is released for the Xbox 360 @ 1200 MSP & I'll definitely be getting it.
